Neighborhood Involvement Program
Seniors Program 2431 Hennepin Avenue South Minneapolis, MN 55405 |
The Seniors Program dates back to the very beginning of NIP. The two services provided are the Chore Program and Leisure Time Parties. We serve North and Southwest Minneapolis.
The primary mission of the Seniors Program is to promote independence by providing low-cost home maintenance services and to prevent isolation through recreational and social opportunities.
The Seniors Program Director, Outreach Coordinator, Program Coordinator, and Volunteer Coordinator recruit independent contractors and volunteers to provide direct chore services to seniors living in their homes. Each of NIP's founding congregations provides volunteers for the Leisure Time Parties.
Due to grants and funding, we have two age ranges based on geography. All clients must be a resident of Minneapolis.
Age 60+ must live within these geographical boundaries to be eligible for services. NIP Seniors Program serves both North and the northern part of Southwest Minneapolis areas. North Minneapolis includes: east of Xerxes Avenue, south of 44th Avenue North, and west of the Mississippi River. Southwest Minneapolis includes: east of France Avenue, north of 36th Street West, and west of the Mississippi River and 35W. Please refer to the NIP Senior Services Area Map.
Age 65+ must live within these geographical boundaries: east of the Mississippi River and southeast Minneapolis (Longfellow, Nokomis, Powderhorn, and Phillips neighborhoods).
NOTE: If a senior resides north of 44th Avenue North, in SSW (south of 36th St W and west of 35W), or elsewhere and needs services, they should contact the Senior Linkage Line at 1-800-333-2433 for information.
Clients pay workers directly for services. If a senior is unable to pay the full amount, they may be partially subsidized (as funding permits). We rely upon donations to sponsor subsidies, which are based upon income. Some seniors may qualify to receive no-cost services from the county according to Hennepin County income requirements. Participation in the Leisure Time Parties is free.
