Good Grades & Games
Good Grades & Games is an extended day academic tutoring and enrichment program for students in 3rd and 4th grade. The objective of the program is to provide students with a variety of activities intended to both promote and improve literacy and math skills. As a school based enrichment program we strive to offer activities that support what students are learning in the classroom in a fun and hands on way. Volunteers will primarily be assisting students with their daily assignments in math, reading, and writing. They will also help staff members plan a variety of creative activities and can share some of their special skills with the students. In the past, volunteers have demonstrated arts & crafts, theater, drama, musical talent, and have raised awareness about health issues such as hygiene, nutrition, and obesity. This class meets daily Mondays through Thursdays.
B.E.A.M.S
Building Exploration Around Math & Science is a 4-6 week summer program for students in 3rd to 8th grade attending Minneapolis Public Schools. The aim of the program is to engage students in learning about math and science. We use a series of hands on activities geared toward getting the students excited about learning. Our science experiments and art projects are exceptional because they incorporate both literacy and math skills into the learning experience.
Study Friends
Study Friends is an evening tutoring and mentoring program that works with students in 3rd-12th grade. The program provides academic assistance to students by pairing them with trained, positive, adult role models at a community study site. In addition, tickets are provided for pairs to attend sporting events, museums, theater performances, and other social events. Volunteers are asked to commit to a minimum of 1.5 hours a week (6 hours a month) of tutoring at a community study site.
